The 5 Signs of Transmission Problems
Transmission Slipping
If your car is shifting for no reason and your engine starts making a whining noise, you may have problems with a slipping transmission. RPM readings above 3,500 or a delay in acceleration can indicate that the transmission is slipping. The cause may be low transmission fluid or, worst case scenario, worn transmission bands or gears.
Check Engine Light
It’s common for the “check engine” or “service engine soon” light to be ignored. Make it a habit to look at your display. The car’s engine sensors may pick up on unusual activity from the transmission. Things that you can’t yet detect. Never delay in getting your car serviced when the check engine light pops up. With transmissions, the earlier you attack the problem the better.
Transmission Fluid Leak
Another indicator is if you notice a bright or dark red spot beneath your car. Transmissions are sealed units that should never leak. Check the color of the fluid—if the fluid is a dark brown or black this indicates high temperatures. At this point you absolutely need to get your transmission inspected. Allowing the transmission to leak is the most common reason why transmissions break down completely. Get it fixed as soon as possible and you may avoid further costly repairs.
Loud Clunking and Whining
Sometimes, car problems are very subtle and you need a trained ear to identify the problem. But when a manual or automatic transmission is acting up, there is no doubt that there is something wrong. If you hear whining, buzzing or humming, your transmission may be the source of the problem.
Rough Shifting or Lack of Response
If your car doesn’t change gears or won’t shift smoothly. If you hear a clunk sound or feel a hard shift when changing gears, your transmission may be beginning to fail. Any delayed response in acceleration or movement may also be an indication of transmission problems.

“Great place to take your vehicle in for transmission work, brakes, check up etc. John and his employees were amazing on my car, very honest and hard working men. They left my car in great shape, I was pleased with the transmission work they did, along with other things such as getting a new alternator, radiator, fixing my brakes and etc. I recommend it to anyone who has car problems. They explained everything thoroughly from pricing to how long it was going to take. This is my new workshop I bring my car too, they are amazing people and workers.”
